improve, along with more appropriate feature capabilities with wireless
devices.
NGN networks provide for an unbundling
of the application layer [using IMS]
from the underlying network architecture, the network operator may
no longer be the ONLY billing body. With open-architecuture, there
is no reason why charging data cannot be passed real time to third
party service providers, who will manage both the service initiation,
session management and billing.
Many of these services may be subscription based, but what of one
off services? How will electronic payments and electronic funds
transfer systems support mobile application services?
Most money today is electronic, with tangible cash fast becoming
a thing of the past. Electronic payments of EFT [electronic funds
transfer] supports of internet / online banking, debit cards, online
bill payments and internet business [ecommerce].
