Sprint Mobile Device Roadmap

Treo 755p

April 2007 - Palm's replacement for the Treo 700p, is the 755p, due to ship mid May. Available in blue or burgundy from CDMA/EV-DO carriers like Sprint and Verizon Wireless.

The Treo 755p will run on the Palm OS— a modified version of ACCESS's Garnet platform. The 755p looks a lot like Palm's recent Treo models 750, 680 for GSM operators. It will lose the 700p’s antenna and be slimmer, lighter, and more compact than the 700p

The new smartphone will be 3G-enabled through support for CDMA operators' EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized network) cellular-wireless networks. This high-speed technology carries content - video, e-mail, pictures, etc. - at average rates of 400 to 700 kilobits per second.

Samsung UbiCell CDMA Base Station for Sprint

March 2007 - Samsung is releasing a mobile network boosting station device designed for the home market. The UbiCell base station, which looks like a WiFi access point, is a mini cell tower designed for CDMA 1x networks. The device connects to a mobile network through a broadband connection to enhance cell coverage in the home. This device compares favorably with previous UMA technology, mainly due to nothing special being required to operate the base station. Samsung will be distributing the UbiCell through Sprint, though other versions (such as GSM) may appear on other carriers.

Samsung UpStage

Sprint Nextel's latest music phone is the Samsung Upstage; previously called the Samsung Ultra Music F300 [GSM device].

The UpStage has the 2-face styling of an iPod nano - maybe an attempt to preempt Apple's iPhone; albeit it doesn't have the specs to compare with the promised features of the iPhone.

Features of the Samsung UpStage include:

  • EV-DO 3G data
  • Stereo Bluetooth 2.0 with spoken caller ID
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 45MB built-in memory plus microSD card slot, 64MB card included
  • Petite size, 4.07" × 1.73" × 0.37"
  • Sprint Music Store for OTA downloads
  • Sprint Music Manager application to load music onto device

Due the first week of April 200, priced at $149.99 on a new 2-year contract. Music Store downloads will cost less at $.99
