Virtualization Planning
Virtualization
In a virtualization server model, severs effectively 'pool' their
processing power to help distribute it right throughout the organisation.
This helps to normalize the demand of the servers, smoothing out
the peaks and lows pertaining to certain applications or times.
In a virtualized application models, all applications are stored
on a central server, such that when a user clicks to open a file
on their desktops, the data file is virtually wrapped by the application
from the central server and loaded to the desktop for that instance
of working.
Regardless of your requirements for virtualization, there is a
standard process to implement:
Planning Steps for Virtualization
Step 1: Determine the Approach
Step 2: Develop Business Case
Step 3: Gain Buy-In
Step 4: Capacity & Benchmark
Step 5: Hardware Selection
Step 6: Software Selection
Step 7: Resourcing
Step 8: Application Sequencing
Step 9: Testing
Step 10: Centralize/Consolidate
Step 11: Mitigate
Step 12: Monitor & Expand
